Bacopa is a plant specific to Indian Ayurveda, also known as Brahmi, a name derived from the Indian god Brahma, creator of the world and founder of Ayurveda. It is mentioned in texts since ancient times and has a special role in religious and health rituals in Indian culture. Although Bacopa has been studied for a series of conditions such as epilepsy, inflammation, pain, most of the recommendations for the use of this extract lead to the improvement of cognitive function and memory capacity, up to the possibility of improving degenerative conditions at the brain level, such as various types of dementia and Alzheimer's.
The beneficial effects are given by compounds called bacosides, with an antioxidant and tonic role at the brain level. Among the documented beneficial effects is the improvement of memory capacity in healthy adults, when taking 300-450 mg of Bacopa daily, for a period of 12 weeks.
In the case of elderly patients, this was translated into improvement in short-term memory, long-term memory and verbal memory. In the case of a group of 31 children aged 6-12 years, diagnosed with ADHD, the administration of 225 mg of Bacopa daily, for a period of 6 months, led to a 20% improvement in all the specific characteristics of this syndrome in the case of 74 % of the children and to the improvement of hyper-agitation, the improvement of memory capacity and the improvement of emotional disorders in 86% of the studied children.
The administration of Bacopa demonstrated the reduction of the activity of the enzymes responsible for the degradation of acetylcholine at the cerebral level, this leading to a prolonged cholinergic function, with beneficial effects in improving memory disorders. A group that would benefit tremendously from this effect is that of people diagnosed with or predisposed to Alzheimer's, a condition that leads to the destruction of cholinergic neurons.
The association of Bacopa extract with B-class vitamins such as B1, B6, B12 and Biotin, with a role in maintaining normal energy balance and in maintaining normal brain function, as well as in the normal synthesis of neurotransmitters, offers complete and complex support of the brain and normal cognitive processes.
L-Arginine is a semi-essential amino acid, with multiple implications for the body's health. Its capacity to increase the production of nitric oxide (responsible for the normal dilation of blood vessels), ensures normal blood pressure, efficient blood supply to all tissues, implicitly favoring healthy nutrition and optimal oxygenation throughout the body.
It reduces the value of blood pressure, in the case of hypertensive people, reducing the risk of hemorrhagic events, and the ability to reduce insulin resistance ensures a normal level of glucose in the blood, but also facilitates its normal uptake and metabolism at the tissue level. It supports liver detoxification, contributing to the elimination of excess ammonia from the body, ammonia being a metabolite that can pathologically affect the functioning of the entire body, implicitly at the cellular level.
The association of l-arginine with B vitamins supports the normal consumption of glucose in the brain, improving neuronal metabolism and cognitive processes.
The kola nut originates from Africa and was used mainly for its tonic and stimulating properties, especially at the cerebral level. Its tonic properties are due to its caffeine content, a well-known brain stimulant, but also an inhibitor of the feeling of hunger. The association of Kola Nut with compounds with a tonic role and brain nutrition favors their uptake and efficient use, and the association with l-arginine acts synergistically, improving blood flow to the brain, stimulating memory and concentration.
The class of B vitamins is a class of water-soluble vitamins, being essential for the proper functioning of the body through the prism of the many processes it facilitates. The B vitamin complex contributes to maintaining normal energy balance and normal cell division.
Vitamin B1 (thiamine) is essential in normal energy production, supporting the breakdown of carbohydrates into simple sugars and the production of fatty acids. Vitamin B3 (niacin) is converted into a coenzyme called nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, the coenzyme that catalyzes over 400 reactions in the body. Vitamin B3 is the precursor of the most used coenzyme derived from a vitamin in the human body. It supports the healthy breakdown of fats and sugars in the body, normal cell division, and intercellular communication. Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) supports the formation of new coenzymes, fats and proteins in the body. It is transported with the help of red blood cells to the cellular level where it supports the processes of metabolism and energy synthesis.
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) catalyzes over 100 enzymatic reactions, being essential for normal cognitive processes, supporting the synthesis of neurotransmitters. It supports the normal metabolism of fats and proteins and contributes to maintaining immunity. Vitamin B7 (biotin) contributes to maintaining the health of the skin, hair and nails, being also recommended as an adjuvant in psoriasis. It contributes to normal energy metabolism and normal cell division. Vitamin B9 (folic acid) reduces the risk of neural tube defects in newborns, if administered during pregnancy. It supports normal cell division and is essential for normal energy metabolism, efficient metabolism of fats and carbohydrates. Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is essential in the formation of normal red blood cells. It supports normal cognitive processes, memory and normal lipid and protein metabolism.
Zinc is an essential mineral, involved in over 100 enzymatic processes throughout the body. Zinc has the effect of reducing the period of illness in the common cold and supporting the normal functioning of the immune system. In the case of people with zinc deficiency, elements similar to those in the ADHD spectrum may appear, memory disorders, hyper-agitation, attention deficit, impairment of smell and taste, eye injuries, reduced healing capacity in the skin.
Zinc mediates normal cell division and the energy production process at the cellular level, asthenia, lack of appetite and significant reduction in muscle mass being indicators of a possible zinc deficiency.
The association of iron with Vitamin B12 and folic acid contributes to the normal synthesis of hemoglobin, preventing anemia and supporting the normal oxygenation of the tissues, and vitamin C contributes to the more efficient assimilation of iron at the digestive level.
Vitamin E is part of the class of fat-soluble vitamins (fat-soluble vitamins), having a strong antioxidant effect on the body. The ability to act as an intracellular antioxidant and counteract the effects of oxidative stress at the level of a wide range of anatomical structures gives it a series of unique therapeutic properties. Vitamin E supports cardiovascular health. Administration in the case of middle-aged and elderly adults had the effect of fewer cardiovascular diseases and a lower incidence of mortality caused by this type of diseases. Among the diseases prevented are heart attack, stroke, angina pectoris and heart failure.
The increased ability to reduce the effects of oxidative stress associated with chronic conditions or age brings a series of benefits in conditions such as type 1 and 2 diabetes (delays the onset of related conditions) and degenerative osteo-articular conditions such as osteoarthritis.
Rhodiola rosea is a plant with adaptogenic and stress-reducing effects proven over years of use. It improves the ability to withstand physical and mental effort, lowers the level of anxiety, relieves symptoms of depression and relieves the feeling of mental fatigue. It reduces the phenomenon of excessive feeding due to stress and anxiety and improves the quality of sleep.
