Loperamide 2 mg, 10 capsules, Slavia Pharm
Loperamide Slavia contains loperamide hydrochloride, which belongs to a group of drugs called peristalsis inhibitors, antipropulsives.
Loperamide Slavia is used to treat a sudden (acute) episode of diarrhea or long-lasting (chronic) diarrhea.
In case of diarrhea, Loperamid Slavia makes stools more consistent and less frequent.
If after 2 days you do not feel better or if you feel worse, you should see a doctor.
Composition:
- The active substance is loperamide hydrochloride
- One capsule contains loperamide hydrochloride 2 mg
- The other components are: capsule content - lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, partially pregelatinized corn starch, colloidal silicon dioxide; cap and capsule body - methyl p-hydroxybenzoate (E 218), propyl p-hydroxybenzoate (E 216), titanium dioxide (E 171), Patent Blue V (E 131), Allura red AC (E129), yellow quinoline (E 104), gelatin.
Mode of administration:
Acute diarrhea:
Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age:
- The recommended initial dose is 4 mg of loperamide hydrochloride (2 Loperamide Slavia capsules) administered orally, followed by 2 mg of loperamide hydrochloride (one Loperamide Slavia capsule) after each diarrheal stool.
Chronic diarrhea:
Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age:
- The recommended starting dose is 4 mg loperamide hydrochloride per day (2 Loperamide Slavia capsules) for adults and 2 mg loperamide hydrochloride per day (1 Loperamide Slavia capsule) for adolescents. This initial dose should be adjusted until 1-2 solid stools per day are obtained. This is usually done with a maintenance dose of 1-6 capsules (2 mg-12 mg loperamide hydrochloride) per day
- The maximum dose for acute and chronic diarrhea is 8 capsules (16 mg) per day for adults, in adolescents it must be related to body weight (3 capsules/20 kg), but must not exceed a maximum of 8 capsules per day.
Seniors:
- No dose adjustment is necessary in the elderly.
Children under 12 years of age:
- For children under 12 years of age, age-appropriate pharmaceutical forms and concentrations are recommended
- If the stools become normal or if no stool has been passed for 12 hours, stop taking Loperamide Slavia.
Contraindications:
Do not take Loperamide Slavia
- if you are allergic to loperamide hydrochloride or any of the other components of this medicine (listed in section 6)
- if you have a high fever and bloody stools
- if you suffer from an inflammatory condition in the lower abdominal region (eg pseudomembranous enterocolitis, bacterial enterocolitis or ulcerative colitis, ulcerative rectocolitis, following ulcer or antibiotic treatment) cases in which the slowing down of bowel activity must be avoided, due to the possible risk of significant complications, including: ileus, megacolon and toxic megacolon
- if you have constipation, abdominal distension or low bowel mobility
- If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Precautions:
Do not take this medicine except for what it is approved for, and never take more than recommended.
Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility:
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine
- It is not recommended to take this medicine during pregnancy
- It is recommended not to use Loperamide Slavia if you are breast-feeding, as small amounts of Loperamide Slavia are excreted in your milk
- Pregnant or lactating women should therefore be advised to consult a doctor for appropriate treatment.
Driving vehicles and using machines:
- If during treatment (or as a result of diarrhoea) you feel tired, sleepy or dizzy, you are less alert or have a fainting sensation, avoid driving and using machinery.
