Cicaderma

Boiron Cicaderma is available as an ointment for topical use, supplied in a 30 g tube. The preparation has a consistency similar to petroleum jelly; it is homogeneous, yellow to yellow-orange in colour, and has an aromatic odour characteristic of the plant components. 

The ointment formulation allows for even application to the affected skin area and forms a protective film with an emollient and moderately occlusive action.

Cicaderma is indicated as an adjunctive topical treatment for:

• small, superficial burns;
• non-infected superficial wounds;
• sunburn;
• skin cracks and chapping;
• insect bites.
   

Its use is based on homeopathic tradition and clinical experience in the management of minor skin injuries, without replacing the medical measures required in the event of serious injuries.

The dosage of Cicaderma depends on the severity and extent of the skin lesions. In general, it is recommended to apply the ointment 1–2 times a day, with or without a dressing.

The ointment should be applied in a thin layer, directly to the affected area, after cleaning the wound, to reduce the risk of secondary infection. It is for topical use only and the duration of treatment is determined based on the local clinical response.

Cicaderma is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients or excipients. Local allergic reactions are the main reason for discontinuing treatment.

Before using Cicaderma, it is recommended to consult a doctor or pharmacist, particularly in patients with chronic dermatological conditions or a history of allergic skin reactions.

Avoid exposing the areas where the ointment has been applied to sunlight, as Hypericum perforatum contains hypericin, a substance that may cause photosensitivity. 

Furthermore, the occlusive nature of petroleum jelly may promote secondary infection if the lesion is not cleaned properly before application.

Like all medicines, Cicaderma can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The most common are local skin reactions, such as redness, itching or a burning sensation.

An important consideration is the risk of photosensitisation, attributed to the Hypericum perforatum extract, which may cause skin reactions upon exposure to ultraviolet rays. 

If any adverse reaction occurs, it is recommended that you stop using the product and consult a specialist.

According to available data, Cicaderma has no known interactions with other medicines administered systemically or topically, nor with food. 

However, concomitant application with other dermatological products on the same area should be assessed on a case-by-case basis to avoid irritation or alterations in local absorption.

No cases of overdose have been reported following topical use of Cicaderma. If a quantity greater than the recommended dose is applied, or in the event of accidental ingestion, it is advisable to consult a doctor or pharmacist.

Cicaderma should be stored at room temperature; no special storage conditions are required. The product must be kept out of the sight and reach of children and must not be used after the expiry date stated on the packaging. 

Unused medicines should not be disposed of in water or household waste, but in accordance with the pharmacist’s recommendations, in order to protect the environment.
