Prontosan

B Braun Prontosan is available in two main forms:

• Prontosan solution is designed to irrigate and prepare the wound, facilitating dressing removal before subsequent treatments.
• Prontosan Wound Gel X has a viscous consistency and is easy to apply straight from the bottle, allowing easy and precise handling.

Braun Prontosan is indicated for:

• Cleaning, moisturizing and decontaminating skin wounds and burns, including 1st and 2nd degree burns
• Treatment of traumatic and postoperative wounds
• Management of chronic non-infected and infected wounds, such as venous ulcers, diabetic ulcers or pressure ulcers
• Thermal and chemical (acid and alkaline-induced) wound care.
• Treatment of radiation wounds
• Treatment of fistulas and abscesses

Prontosan solution can also be used for moistening wound dressings adherent to the wound before removing them and for intra-operative wound cleaning and irrigation.

To use Prontosan solution, open the bottle by removing the protective ring and irrigate the affected area directly from the bottle. It is recommended to use the solution whenever wound cleaning is necessary.

Prontosan gel is applied directly from the bottle by squeezing it, as it is compatible with wound dressings commonly used on wounds. It is recommended to apply the gel as often as necessary, depending on the condition of the wound. For best results, Prontosan solution should be used before treatment with Prontosan Gel.

Prontosan should not be used in the following situations:

• allergy to any of the product's ingredients
• use on the central nervous system or meninges
• use in the middle or inner ear or eye
• use on hyaline cartilage and in aseptic joint surgery. In the event of contact with aseptic cartilage, immediate irrigation with Ringer's solution or physiologic saline is required
• use with anionic surfactants
• use in combination with cleansing soaps, ointments, oils or enzymes
• for peritoneal lavage or rinsing

Prontosan has high tissue tolerance and biocompatibility and is well accepted by most patients. 

Prontosan can be warmed to body temperature before application, thus facilitating patient comfort.

Dressings and compresses placed in the wound can be moistened with Prontosan wound gel before applying.

Important! The product is for external use only.

Prontosan is generally well tolerated, but minor side effects may occur in rare cases, such as:

• Slight burning sensation at the application site
• Sensitivity or allergic reactions to product ingredients

If significant or persistent side effects occur, it is recommended to discontinue use and consult a doctor.

Prontosan has no known interactions with other medications, but it is important that users discuss with their doctor any concomitant treatments they may be taking, especially if using topical or systemic medications for infections or other medical conditions.

Because Prontosan is a topical product, the risk of overdose is low. However, excessive use may lead to irritation or other side effects. It is essential that you follow the instructions for use and follow the recommended dose.

Prontosan should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight. After opening, it is important to observe the expiry date and store out of the reach of children. The upper portion of the vial must be protected from contamination during use.
