Instruction Cynarix
The information in the FAQ section was created by the Liki24.be team and is based on the official manufacturer's manual
Cynarix is a standardised herbal preparation based on dry extract of Cynara scolymus (artichoke), traditionally used to stimulate bile secretion and improve digestive processes associated with biliary insufficiency or functional dyspepsia.
Thanks to its composition rich in active ingredients with choleretic and cholagogue action, Cynarix falls within a well-defined pharmacotherapeutic category — gallbladder therapy and preparations intended to optimise bile flow — with a stable therapeutic profile, good tolerability and extensive use in clinical practice for patients with mild to moderate digestive disorders.
Dosage forms
Cynarix is available as 55 mg tablets containing dry extract of cynara 4-6:1, packaged in blister packs, in boxes of 60 tablets. In addition to the active ingredient, each tablet contains excipients designed to ensure optimal stability and absorption.
Indications for use
Cynara scolymus extract is traditionally used to stimulate bile secretion and aid digestion, particularly in cases of difficult digestion following high-fat meals, a feeling of fullness after eating, or functional dyspepsia. Cynarix may help to:
- relieve abdominal discomfort associated with a lack of bile;
- reduce bloating and a feeling of gastric heaviness;
- normalise digestive transit by optimising bile flow.
The product is not a substitute for treatments prescribed for serious hepatobiliary conditions, but represents a valid adjunctive option for functional disorders.
Dosage regimen
According to the recommendations in the package leaflet, unless otherwise directed by a doctor, adults and children over 12 years of age should take 1–2 tablets three times a day, with a little water, during meals, to promote bile secretion and reduce gastric irritation.
In the case of long-term treatment, the duration of administration is determined by the doctor based on the severity of symptoms and clinical progress.
Contraindications
Cynarix is contraindicated in the following situations:
- hypersensitivity to Cynara scolymus extract or to the product’s excipients;
- bile duct obstruction (severe cholestasis);
- gallbladder empyema;
- history of biliary hyperkinesia, in which case further stimulation of secretion may induce biliary colic.
The product is not recommended for patients with hereditary galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency or glucose-galactose-fructose malabsorption, due to its sugar and lactose content.
Special considerations
In patients with gallstones, administration of Cynarix may cause biliary colic due to increased bile flow; therefore, it should only be used under medical supervision.
No further precautions have been identified when the product is used at the recommended doses.
Side effects
In general, Cynarix is well tolerated, but the following may occur:
- hypersensitivity reactions, particularly in allergic individuals
- mild abdominal discomfort, particularly at the start of treatment
- rarely, biliary colic in patients with gallstones
No serious reactions have been reported when the product is administered in accordance with the recommendations.
Interactions with other medicines and food
Based on available data, there are no known interactions between artichoke extract and other medicines or foods.
However, patients undergoing treatment for chronic conditions or with hepatobiliary disorders should consult their doctor beforehand to avoid possible functional interactions.
Overdose
To date, no cases of overdose with Cynarix have been reported. However, ingesting quantities far in excess of the recommended doses may cause an increase in gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea, cramps, diarrhoea) or excessive cholagogue effects. In such situations, it is recommended to discontinue use and consult a doctor.
Storage conditions
To maintain the stability of the active ingredients, Cynarix must be stored at temperatures below 30 °C, in the original packaging, protected from moisture and light, and kept out of the reach and sight of children. Do not use after the expiry date stated on the packaging.
