Marbogen Complex, 10 ml are ear drops solution for dogs indicated in the treatment of acute otitis externa in dogs where, based on microbiological tests, infections with Staphylococcus pseudintermedius and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Malassezia pachydermatitis sensitive to ketoconazole are present concomitantly, and, based on susceptibility tests, due to different resistance characteristics, the administration of both marbofloxacin and gentamicin is considered necessary to combat the aforementioned bacteria.

• Gentamicin sulfate 2.044 mg
• Ketoconazole 4.081 mg
• Prednisolone 1,850 mg

CONTRAINDICATIONS

• Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients. Do not use in dogs with perforated tympanic membrane.

ADVERSE REACTIONS

• Mild erythematous lesions may be observed following administration.
• The frequency of adverse reactions is very rare (present in less than 1 in 10,000 animals, including isolated reports).
• No adverse reactions were observed after administration of the recommended dose.
• If hypersensitivity to any of the components occurs, treatment should be discontinued and appropriate therapy should be instituted.

SPECIAL WARNINGS
Special warnings for each target species:

• Unnecessary use of the product with respect to any of the active substances should be avoided. Treatment is only indicated if mixed infection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus pseudintermedius and Malassezia pachydermatis has been detected.
• If one of the active substances is no longer indicated due to the different characteristics of the bacterial or fungal infections, the product should be discontinued and replaced with the appropriate treatment option. Bacterial and fungal otitis media are often secondary in nature. The underlying cause should be identified and treated.
• During administration of the product, contact with the eyes should be avoided. In case of accidental contact with the eyes, rinse the eyes immediately with plenty of water.

Special precautions for use in animals:

• The use of the veterinary medicinal product should be based on identification of the micro-organism and susceptibility testing, taking into account official and local antimicrobial policies. It should be ensured that diagnostic procedures are not neglected due to the broad spectrum of antimicrobial components.
• The diagnostic procedure should include physical examination, cytological examination, and sampling. Specimens should be cultured and the pathogens and their resistance characteristics determined. Exclusive use of a single class of antibiotics may lead to increased resistance in the bacterial population. It is prudent to reserve fluoroquinolone antibiotics for the treatment of clinical conditions that have responded poorly or are expected to respond poorly to other classes of antibiotics.
• Prolonged and intensive use of topical corticosteroid products causes some local and systemic effects, including suppression of adrenal function, thinning of the epidermis and delay in the healing process.

Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals:

• People with known hypersensitivity to any of the substances should avoid contact with the product.
• Personal protective equipment, consisting of waterproof gloves, must be worn when handling the product.
• Do not consume food, drink or tobacco while administering the product.
• In case of skin exposure, clean contaminated skin with a soap and water solution.
• In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
• Seek medical attention if signs of skin redness, rash, or persistent eye irritation develop after exposure. Swelling of the face, lips, and eyes, or difficulty breathing are more serious signs that require urgent medical attention.

Use during pregnancy or lactation:

• The safety of the veterinary medicinal product has not been established during pregnancy and lactation. Use is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction:

Overdose (symptoms, emergency procedures, antidotes):

• When exceeding the recommended dose by up to 5 times, no local or general adverse reactions were observed. If hypersensitivity to any of the components occurs, treatment should be discontinued and appropriate therapy should be initiated.

Incompatibilities:

• The bactericidal activity of fluoroquinolones and aminoglycosides is reduced in the presence of acidic ear cleaning products. Acidic ear cleaning products should be avoided.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR THE DISPOSAL OF UNUSED PRODUCTS OR WASTE MATERIALS, IF ANY

• Any unused veterinary medicinal product or waste materials derived from such veterinary medicinal products should be disposed of in accordance with local requirements.

• Auricular administration.
• For external use only.
• The recommended dosage level of the product for dogs is 5 drops (approximately 0.1 ml) in the external auditory canal, twice daily, for 14 days.
• Before applying the product, hair and dirt must be removed from the surface to be treated.
• Massage the base of the ear and try to prevent the dog from shaking its head for at least 5 minutes.
• The dropper should be cleaned after use with a clean tissue or paper towel and the bottle cap should be tightly closed after use.
