Aspifox 75 mg, 30 gastro-resistant tablets, Actavis

Indications:
ASPIFOX contains acetylsalicylic acid, which in low doses belongs to a group of medicines called antiplatelet agents. Platelets are small cells present in the blood, which participate in blood clotting and are involved in thrombosis. When a blood clot forms in an artery,
This blocks blood flow and cuts off oxygen supply. When this happens in the heart, it can cause a heart attack or angina; in the brain, it can cause a stroke.
ASPIFOX is administered to reduce the risk of blood clots and therefore to prevent:
- myocardial infarction
- cerebrovascular accidents
- cardiovascular problems in patients suffering from stable or unstable angina pectoris (a type of chest pain).
ASPIFOX is also used to prevent blood clots from forming after certain types of heart surgery by unblocking blood vessels.
This medicine is not recommended for emergency cases. It can only be used as a preventive treatment.

Composition:
- The active substance is acetylsalicylic acid. One gastro-resistant tablet contains acetylsalicylic acid 75, 100 mg,.
- The other ingredients are: core: microcrystalline cellulose type 102, corn starch, colloidal anhydrous silica, stearic acid; film: methacrylic acid-ethyl acrylate copolymer (1:1), 30% dispersion, polysorbate 80, sodium lauryl sulfate, triethyl citrate, talc.

Method of administration:
Always take ASPIFOX exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Adults:
Prevention of myocardial infarction:
- The recommended dose is 75-160 mg once a day.
Prevention of stroke:
- The recommended dose is 75-325 mg once a day.
Prevention of cardiovascular problems in patients suffering from stable or unstable angina pectoris (a type of chest pain):
- The recommended dose is 75-160 mg once a day.
Prevention of blood clots after certain types of heart surgery:
- The recommended dose is 75-160 mg once a day.
Elderly:
Same doses as in adults. In general, acetylsalicylic acid should be used with caution in elderly patients who are more prone to adverse reactions. Treatment should be re-evaluated at regular intervals.

Contraindications:
Do not take ASPIFOX if:
- you are allergic to acetylsalicylic acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- you are allergic to other salicylates or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). NSAIDs are often used to treat arthritis or rheumatism and pain.
- you have had an asthma attack or swelling of certain parts of the body, for example the face, lips, throat or tongue (angioedema) after taking salicylates or NSAIDs
- you have (currently) or have had an ulcer in your stomach or small intestine or any other type of bleeding, such as a stroke
- have you ever had a problem with your blood not clotting properly
- you have severe liver or kidney problems
- you are in the last 3 months of pregnancy; you should not use doses higher than 100 mg per day
- you are taking a medicine called methotrexate (for example for cancer or rheumatoid arthritis) in doses greater than 15 mg per week.

Precautions:
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking ASPIFOX if:
- you have kidney, liver or heart problems
- you have or have had problems with your stomach or small intestine
- Do you have high blood pressure
- you are asthmatic, have hay fever, nasal polyps or other chronic respiratory diseases; acetylsalicylic acid may induce an asthma attack
- have you ever had gout?
- you have heavy menstrual cycles.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding:
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
Pregnant women should not use acetylsalicylic acid during pregnancy unless recommended by a doctor.
You should not take ASPIFOX in the last 3 months of pregnancy unless advised by your doctor, and the daily dose should not exceed 100 mg.
Regular doses or large doses of this medicine during the last period of pregnancy may cause serious complications in the mother or the baby.
Breastfeeding women should not take acetylsalicylic acid unless advised by a doctor.

Driving and using machines:
ASPIFOX does not affect your ability to drive or use machines.
