Clorexyderm

The Clorexyderm range is available in several forms, designed to meet the various therapeutic needs of pets, for example Clorexyderm ear solution, Clorexyderm antiseptic foam, Clorexyderm dermatological shampoo or Clorexyderm spot gel.

One of the available forms is Clorexyderm Oto Piu, an ear solution for dogs and cats, intended for the regular cleaning of the external ear canal. Clorexyderm Oto Piu contains 0.06% chlorhexidine digluconate, lactobionic acid and salicylic acid, ingredients with antiseptic, keratolytic and moisturising properties.

Clorexyderm products are recommended for maintaining skin health and for the adjunctive treatment of certain dermatological and ear conditions in dogs and cats.

The ear solution is indicated for the regular cleaning of the external ear canal, helping to remove excess earwax and reduce the proliferation of microorganisms in the outer ear.

Clorexyderm shampoo or antiseptic foam is used for the management of bacterial and fungal dermatitis, including pyoderma, interdigital dermatitis or dermatophytosis. 

Clorexyderm spot gel for dogs and cats is indicated for localised skin lesions, such as acute moist dermatitis (Hot Spot), interdigital dermatitis or other bacterial and fungal skin infections.

The method of administration of Clorexyderm products varies depending on the pharmaceutical form used.

In the case of the ear solution, instil a few drops into the ear canal, whilst gently massaging the base of the ear. 

Clorexyderm 4% antiseptic foam is applied once daily to the affected areas of the skin, massaged in gently and left to dry naturally, without rinsing.

In the case of Clorexyderm shampoo, it is recommended to apply it to the animal’s damp coat, followed by a contact time of approximately 5–10 minutes.

The spot gel should be applied directly to the affected areas 2–3 times a day until healed; thereafter, it can be used once a week to maintain healthy skin.

The use of Clorexyderm products is contraindicated in animals or individuals with known hypersensitivity to chlorhexidine or any of the product’s excipients.

In such cases, it is recommended to discontinue use and consult a veterinarian to determine a suitable alternative treatment.

To minimise discomfort to the animal, ear solutions should be brought to room temperature before administration.

In the case of the dermatological shampoo, it is recommended to brush the coat before bathing to remove impurities and facilitate contact between the product and the skin.

Clorexyderm products are generally well tolerated by dogs and cats. In rare cases, local hypersensitivity reactions such as erythema, pruritus or skin irritation may occur.

If persistent adverse reactions occur, it is recommended to discontinue use and consult a vet.

No significant interactions between Clorexyderm products and other medicines or food have been reported.

However, when used concurrently with other dermatological or ear treatments, it is recommended to consult a veterinarian to establish an appropriate treatment regimen.

Due to external administration, the risk of overdose is low. However, excessive application may cause skin dryness or local irritation.

In the event of accidental ingestion or the appearance of unusual symptoms, consult your vet.

Clorexyderm products should be stored in their original packaging, in a dry place, at temperatures below 25°C. It is recommended to avoid exposure to direct light or heat sources and to keep the products out of the sight and reach of children.
