Basal temperature during the cycle
The temperature curve, which is measured from the beginning of menstruation to the next menstruation, has 2 phases
The first phase (follicular phase):
- It starts from the beginning of menstruation until ovulation, it lasts about 14 days, it depends on the length of each woman's menstrual cycle.
- The temperature is around 36.5 °C
Phase 2 (luteal phase):
- It starts with ovulation and lasts until menstruation
- The temperature rises by about 0.2°C to 0.5°C
During ovulation, the temperature rises. The high temperature persists for another 12-14 days. Before menstruation approaches, the basal body temperature begins to decrease slowly. Fertile days are in the period 5 days before the temperature rise and the first day of the temperature rise. If the temperature does not change, does not rise above 37 degrees C, there is a probability of anovulatory cycles, consult your doctor immediately.
Methods of measuring basal temperature
Take the temperature as soon as you wake up (after at least 3 hours of sleep). Avoid vigorous activity before the measurement. Always take your body temperature in the same place and at the same time, using the same method.
Oral method (normal temperature 35.5°C - 37.35°C) Place the sensor (metal tip) under the tongue. The tip of the thermometer should touch the leaf under the tongue. Keep in the same position with your mouth closed. Do not change the position of the thermometer during the measurement. Measuring time: about 60 seconds.
Axillary Method (Normal Temperature 34.7°C - 37.3°C) This is the least accurate method and takes the longest. Make sure your armpits are dry before measuring. Place the sensor in the armpit and hold it firmly. Measurement time: 5-10 minutes.
Vaginal method (normal temperature 36.6 °C - 38.0 °C) insert about 1 cm into the vagina, you can use lubricating gel. Measurement time: 60 seconds.
However, many factors can affect basal body temperature. (eg illness, poor sleep, drinking alcohol in the evening).
