Although our eating habits have a large impact on the frequency and severity of indigestion, this discomfort can also be related to the underlying problem - low hydrochloric acid (HCL) in the stomach.
Betaine for digestion
Betaine is a nutrient obtained from food, including grains or beets. Betaine HCL is an acid version of betaine , which is an excellent source of hydrochloric acid , produced by the parietal cells of the stomach. Hydrochloric acid is necessary for proper nutrient absorption and protein digestion.
Essential pepsin
In addition, Betaine HCL is combined with digestive enzymes such as pepsin. Its main job is to break down proteins in food - for example those contained in meat, eggs, dairy products, nuts and seeds. Taking pepsin is especially important when the stomach is not able to release enough enzyme, as a result the processing of proteins is disturbed.
Amino acid metabolism
Betaine also supports the body in homocysteine metabolism . It is an amino acid that the human body needs to make its own proteins. Daily consumption of 1.5 g of betaine has a beneficial effect on homocysteine metabolism.
