This monotypic plant species comes from the clove family. His life began in the Sonoran Desert located in the southwestern part of North America, which stretches from Arizona to Mexico. The bush grows up to a height of 4 meters. As a desert plant, it does not require chemical fertilization or pesticides. Simondsia seeds contain liquid wax, called liquid desert gold in the literature, used in cosmetics as jojoba oil.
