Imodium 2 mg, 6 orodispersible tablets, Johnson & Johnson

Indications:
Imodium is part of the group of antidiarrheal, anti-inflammatory/intestinal antiseptic drugs, being an antipropulsive.
In case of diarrhea, Imodium makes stools firmer and less frequent. You can use Imodium for a sudden episode of diarrhea (acute) or long-term diarrhea (chronic). You may also be prescribed Imodium if you have had part of your intestine removed, as this can cause frequent diarrhea.

Composition:
- The active substance is loperamide hydrochloride. One orodispersible tablet contains 2 mg loperamide hydrochloride.
- The other ingredients are gelatin, mannitol, aspartame, mint flavor, sodium hydrogen carbonate.

Method of administration:
The dose of Imodium you should use will depend on your age and the type of diarrhoea.
The orodispersible tablet should be placed on the tongue.
The orodispersible tablets are fragile and should not be pushed through the blister as this would damage them.
To remove the orodispersible tablets from the blister:
- pull up the edge of the foil
- remove the foil completely
- press to push the tablet
- remove the tablet
Adults (including the elderly), children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years
-for acute diarrhoea (a sudden episode), take 2 Imodium orodispersible tablets (4 mg loperamide hydrochloride) at once, then 1 Imodium tablet (2 mg loperamide hydrochloride) after each bowel movement. If you have a hard or solid stool or if you have not had a bowel movement for 24 hours, stop taking the medicine.
-for long-term (chronic) diarrhea, the initial dose is 2 orodispersible tablets (4 mg) per day for adults and 1 orodispersible tablet (2 mg) per day for children; this initial dose should be adjusted until 1-2 solid stools per day are obtained, which is usually achieved with a maintenance dose of 1-6 tablets (2-12 mg) per day.
But: Do not administer more than the recommended dose per day and per kilogram of your child's body weight (3 orodispersible tablets/20 kg), which should not exceed a maximum of 8 orodispersible tablets per day).
Children between 2 and 5 years old:
Orodispersible tablets should not be given to children under 2 years of age.
Children under 2 years of age: Loperamide hydrochloride is not for use in children under 2 years of age.

Contraindications:
Do not use Imodium:
- if you are allergic to loperamide hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
- if you administer to children under 2 years of age;
- if there is blood in your stool or if you have a fever;
- if you have inflammation of the lower abdomen (e.g. ulcerative colitis or colitis
- pseudomembranous as a result of antibiotic use);
- if you have bacterial enterocolitis caused by aggressive microorganisms, such as Salmonella, Shigella
- and Campylobacter
- if your doctor has told you that slowing down your bowel activity should be avoided, for example if you are constipated or your abdomen is bloated;

Precautions:
Do not take this medication except for the approved indication and never take a larger amount than recommended.

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
It is not recommended to use Imodium if you are breastfeeding, as small amounts of Imodium may pass into your breast milk.

Driving and using machines:
Imodium has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines. However, fatigue, dizziness or drowsiness may accompany diarrhoea, so it is advisable to be careful when driving or using machines.
