L-Mesitran Soft is a gel containing: medical grade honey, hypoallergenic lanolin (Medilan®), propylene glycol, PEG 4000 and vitamins C and E. When the gel comes into contact with the wound, fluid is drawn from the surrounding tissues. by osmosis. This creates a moist environment that promotes wound healing.

Due to its strong osmotic activity, L-Mesitran Soft has antibacterial properties. The gel will gradually absorb and can be easily removed according to local wound cleaning protocols.

L-Mesitran Soft is a primary dressing that can be covered by the most frequently used secondary dressings. The properties of the gel prevent the secondary dressing from sticking to the wound bed.

Due to the use of natural ingredients, each batch of gel may differ in color (white - yellow - brown). The gel may contain sugar crystals, but this does not affect the effectiveness and/or use of the gel.

Indications:

• Chronic wounds
• bedsores (I - IV),
• Venous fibrosis ulcers
• Fungal wounds (which help deodorize and/or debride).
• colonized acute wounds
• Surgical wounds, postoperative wounds, traumatic wounds (superficial wounds, cuts), small burns and laser wounds (superficial and partial burns).

Contraindications:

Do not use the gel in patients known to be hypersensitive to any of the ingredients of the ointment. No other contraindications are known so far.

Precautions and comments:

1. When opening and using the gel from a new tube, check that it is not damaged or previously opened.

2. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if additional measures are deemed necessary to properly treat the wound.

3. Inspect and clean the wound according to local protocols before use.

4. Due to autolytic debridement, the wound may appear larger after the first dressing changes. This is a normal phenomenon and occurs during tissue impact and preparation of the healing bed.

5. Bacterial colonization of chronic wounds is always present and is not a contraindication to the use of L-Mesitran Soft.

6. Seek medical attention if symptoms of infection (fever, pain, redness, and abscess) develop or if the wound worsens.

7. L-Mesitran Soft is intended for single patient use. The tube can be reused on the same patient.

8. Always put the cap on the tube after use.

9. Once the package is opened, provided that the product is used in accordance with the instructions described in this leaflet, the shelf life of the product is equal to the expiration date printed on the package.

How to use:

Opening:

1. Remove the cap, clean the nozzle of the tube and the top of the cap with an alcohol swab.

2. When using the tube for the first time, it is necessary to pierce the opening of the tube by pressing the top of the cap to seal the foil covering the nozzle. Avoid squeezing the content right now.

Application to the wound:

1. Holding the nozzle above the surface of the wound, gently squeeze the contents, applying a sufficient layer of gel to the entire surface of the wound (including the area around the wound).

2. If necessary, use a (sterile) spatula to spread the gel over the surface of the wound.

3. Cover the wound with an appropriate secondary dressing.

4. Reapply the gel to the wound once the gel has been absorbed into the wound. This depends on the rate and volume of fluid produced by the wound.

Storage and precautions:

Store at room temperature 5°-25°C / 41°-77°F L-Mesitran gel is a natural product and can become liquid at different temperatures. If this is a problem, the tube can be placed in the refrigerator before use.

Instead of metabolizing the amino acids in the wound, which would be converted into odorous substances (sulphur/ammonia), the bacteria first convert the glucose in the honey into lactic acid (odorless). The unpleasant smell disappears very quickly, which immediately improves the quality of life of patients.

Anti-inflammatory effect:

Prolonged inflammation is associated with a delay in the wound healing process. Honey beneficially changes the wound environment and suppresses bacteria and other particles present in the wound that cause inflammation. Honey "eliminates" oxygen free radicals, acting as an antioxidant.
