The Scrabble game was invented by Alfred Butts, of American origin, in 1931. This game evolved from a fun game for children to a competitive sport. In our country, there are official competitions organized under the auspices of the Romanian Scrabble Federation. It is a game that is both old and current and will keep everyone in the family busy for hours on end.

Characteristics:

• The game pieces are adapted to the letters of the Romanian language and comply with the rules of the game approved by the Romanian Scrabble Federation
• The goal of a player is to achieve the highest possible score by placing various words on the game board with the help of letter tokens.
• It helps to improve vocabulary, creativity and arithmetic skills, logical thinking, strategy and at the same time spontaneity
• Scrabble can be played with 2, 3 or 4 players

Scrabble rules

Introductory notes:

• The game board is made up of a square of 15 x 15 squares, where you can see some colored squares whose significance is the multiplication of the value of the letters or words placed on them, and on the edges of the game board you can find on the left part letters from 'A' to 'O', and at the top numbers from 1 to 15
• Tokens are written with letters of the alphabet, each letter having in the lower right part a number that indicates its value.
• Two of the tokens (jokers) can take the place of any letter in the alphabet, but with the value zero.

How to play:

• The order of the players is determined by drawing lots, each one draws a letter from the bag, and the one whose letter is closer to the beginning of the alphabet starts the game
• Before the game starts, each participant draws 7 letters from the bag and places them on the received support
• The first word, which is placed on the empty board, must consist of at least 2 letters and at most 7 letters and must pass through the square in the center of the board.
• For the following submissions, between one and 7 letters can be placed on the board, but no more than 7 letters are allowed.
• All letters used in a submission are placed only horizontally or only vertically, on a single line or column.
• It is not possible to submit isolated words, which have no connection with another word on the board.
• All the letters of a submission must be linked together with those already existing on the board.
• If a joker is placed, it will be specified which letter it replaces, and its meaning does not change until the end of the game.
• A submission is correct if the fundamental rules are respected, if all the newly formed words on the board are accepted by the game participants
• It should be noted that after each deposit, as many letters as were deposited on the board will be drawn from the bag and each participant in the game will keep a record of their score.
• The game ends when all the letters have been used up and a player has placed all his chips on the board.
• The value of the letters left by the opponent are subtracted from his score and added to the score of the player who finished first.
• If all players say "step" at the end of the game, each player subtracts from the total score the value of the letters left on their support.
• The winner of the game is the player with the highest score at the end.
