Description
FRUCTOsin® is a medical device that contains xylose isomerase and is used to treat fructose malabsorption. In the small intestine, it converts fructose into easily absorbable glucose, thus preventing/alleviating the symptoms of fructose malabsorption.
Fructose malabsorption
In the case of fructose malabsorption, there is a disorder in the digestion of fruit sugar (fructose), as a result of which its absorption in the small intestine is affected. As a result of malabsorption or excessive fructose intake, undigested sugar moves from the small intestine to the large intestine, where the fructose is fermented by gut bacteria to produce hydrogen, carbon dioxide, methane, and short-chain fatty acids. Malabsorption or excessive intake of fructose causes gastrointestinal problems similar to lactose intolerance - bloating, cramps, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea or constipation (constipation), non-alcoholic steatosis of the liver, hyperlipidemia. In chronic states of fructose malabsorption, there is an unsatisfactory microbial colonization of the intestine.
Why FRUCTOsin®?
People with fructose malabsorption can only tolerate small amounts of fructose in their diet. The presumed cause is a malfunction of the GLUT-5 fructose transport system, which is responsible for the absorption of fructose from the small intestine. If fructose is not absorbed in the small intestine, it is broken down by bacteria in the large intestine. Fructose breakdown products can cause symptoms of fructose malabsorption. FRUCTOsin®, as a medical aid, provides the body with the enzyme xylose isomerase in its active form. The enzyme converts fructose into glucose, which is easier to digest and quickly absorbed by the body as a primary nutrient. Fructose is thus eliminated already in the small intestine, which prevents the appearance of malabsorption symptoms.
What is fructose?
By the term fructose we mean fruit sugar, a form of sugar that is naturally found in fruits (cherries, pears, apples, plums...), in honey, in dried fruits (figs, dates, raisins...) , in vegetables. (onion, garlic, artichoke, beetroot...), but also in and in many industrially produced foods, such as juices, sweetened drinks, e.g. syrups, compotes, jams. Fructose is the sweetest of the simple sugars. It is up to two and a half times sweeter than glucose. While glucose is actively resorbed in the intestine, the passage of fructose across the mucosa is diffusion dependent. The food industry widely uses fructose as a liquid sugar in the form of so-called "high fructose corn syrup". In addition to a low-fructose diet, artificial sugars such as sorbitol, mannitol and xylitol should also be avoided, as they further inhibit fructose absorption.
How to take FRUCTOsin®?
Depending on your total fructose intake, take 1 to 2 capsules with water 15 minutes before eating foods containing fructose. Can be used up to 3 times a day. When fructose reaches the intestine, the capsule should already be dissolved and the enzyme active. The contents of the capsule should not be chewed, but should be swallowed whole. If you have trouble swallowing the capsule, you can open the capsule, swallow its contents immediately and drink it with a small amount of water without chewing. The maximum daily dose of FRUCTOsin® depends on the total intake of fructose, but should not exceed 6 capsules.
