Description
Swanson ® Folic Acid is a dietary supplement designed to supplement the daily diet of pregnant women. Each capsule of the preparation provides the body with 800 µg of folate, enclosed in a gelatin shell.
Folic acid in pregnancy – importance
The use of folic acid supplements increases the concentration of folate in the mother's body. Low levels of maternal folic acid are a risk factor for the development of neural tube defects in the developing fetus. The beneficial effect occurs with an additional daily intake of 400 μg of folic acid at least one month before and at most three months after conception.
Folate also participates in the process of cell division and contributes to the growth of maternal tissues during pregnancy. They also help in the proper synthesis of amino acids, while playing a role in proper blood production. Folic acid also supports the proper functioning of the immune system and helps reduce the feeling of tiredness and fatigue, which is important at every stage of pregnancy.
