Telomeres are a region of DNA located at the end of each chromosome. They have the role of protecting the genetic material of the cell. Researchers have discovered that there is a link between the shortening of telomeres and the aging process and the onset of disease.
Telomere shortening, which occurs progressively, is basically caused by the body's inability to produce enough telomerase (an enzyme that prevents telomere shortening and repairs DNA sequences) as we age. Then, they also noticed that, in the world, there are some plant species that help to maintain and even increase the length of these telomeres.
