Zodac® is used to relieve the symptoms of acute allergic rhinitis (seasonal) and acute conjunctivitis, acute allergic manifestations of the skin accompanied by itching, and on the recommendation of a doctor to relieve the symptoms of chronic rhinitis (year-round) and chronic conjunctivitis.

Dosage:

• Children aged 6-12 years: 1/2 tablet (5 mg) 2 times a day
• Adults and children over 12 years of age: 1 tablet once a day

Patients with renal failure:

• Creatinine clearance 30 - 49 ml/min take 1/2 tablet once a day.
• Creatinine clearance < 30 ml/min take 1/2 tablet every other day
• In children and adolescents with renal insufficiency, it is necessary to adjust the dose individually, taking into account the renal clearance value of each patient, age and body weight.

If you do not feel better in 3 days or if you feel worse, you should see a doctor.

Mode of use

The tablets are swallowed whole and drunk with water. The tablets have a dividing line and can be divided into 2 equal doses.

Warning

The drug is not recommended for children under 6 years old due to the high content of the active ingredient. Use of the pediatric formulation of cetirizine is recommended. The drug is contraindicated in patients with end-stage renal disease with an eGFR below 15 ml/min.

Caution is required in patients with epilepsy. The medicine affects the results of skin tests. It is necessary to stop the drug 3 days before the test. Patients suffering from drowsiness should not drive vehicles, participate in potentially hazardous activities or operate machinery. Do not drink alcohol. The medicine contains lactose.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, if you think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.

ZODAC should not be given to pregnant women. However, the possible accidental use of the drug by a pregnant woman should not have harmful effects on the fetus. The medicine should be used only if necessary and after consulting the doctor.

Cetirizine passes into breast milk. The risk of adverse reactions in breastfed children cannot be excluded. Therefore, ZODAC should not be used during breast-feeding, unless you consult your doctor.

Adverse effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The following side effects are rare or very rare, but if you notice them, you should stop taking ZODAC and consult your doctor immediately:

Allergic reactions, including severe reactions and angioedema (a serious allergic reaction that causes swelling of the face and neck).

These reactions may appear immediately after the first use of the drug or may occur later.

Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

• Drowsiness (drowsiness)
• Dizziness, headache
• Pharyngitis (sore throat), runny nose (runny nose or stuffy nose) (in children)
• Diarrhea, nausea, dry mouth
• Fatigue

Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people)

• Restlessness
• Unusual skin sensations (paresthesias)
• Abdominal pain
• Itching of the skin (pruritus), rash
• Extreme tiredness (asthenia), feeling sick (general rare)

Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people)

• Allergic reactions, sometimes severe (very rare)
• Depression, hallucinations, aggression, confusion, insomnia
• Convulsions (seizures)
• Rapid heart activity (tachycardia)
• Abnormal liver function
• Urticaria (hives)
• swelling (edema)
• Weight gain

Very rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):

• Decreased number of platelets in the blood (thrombocytopenia)
• Tics (involuntary jerks)
• Sudden and short-lived unconsciousness (syncope), involuntary movements (dyskinesia), unusually prolonged muscle contractions (dystonia), tremors, taste disturbances (dysgeusia)
• Blurred vision, difficulty concentrating (accommodation disorder), uncontrollable circular movements of the eyes (oculogyric crisis)
• Severe allergic reaction causing swelling of the face and neck (angioedema), localized, i.e. drug rash affecting one place (drug allergy)
• unusual urination (nocturia, pain and/or difficulty urinating)

Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):

• Increase in appetite
• Suicidal ideation (recurrent suicidal thoughts or obsession with suicide), nightmares
• Loss of memory (amnesia), memory disorder
• Feeling of spinning or moving (vertigo)
• Urinary retention (inability to completely empty the bladder)
• Pruritus (intense itching) and/or hives after stopping treatment
• Arthralgia (joint pain), myalgia (muscle pain)
• acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (skin rash with blisters containing pus)
• Jaundice (inflammation of the liver)

Contraindications

Do not take ZODAC:

• If you are allergic to cetirizine dichloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
• If you are allergic to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives (closely related active substances of other medicines)
• If you have end-stage renal disease (severe kidney failure requiring dialysis treatment)

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking ZODAC.

If you have kidney failure, ask your doctor for advice and you will take a lower dose if necessary. Your doctor will determine the new dose.

If you have problems urinating (such as spinal cord, prostate or bladder problems), consult your doctor.

If you have epilepsy or are at risk of seizures, tell your doctor and ask for advice.

No clinically significant interaction was found between alcohol (at a blood level of 0.5 per mil (g/l), equivalent to drinking a glass of wine) and cetirizine at usual therapeutic doses. However, no safety data are available on the simultaneous use of high doses of cetirizine and alcohol. That is why, as in the case of all anti-allergic drugs, it is not recommended to drink alcohol at the same time as ZODACOM treatment.

If you are going to have allergy tests, ask your doctor if you should stop taking ZODAC a few days before the test. This medicine may affect the results of your allergy tests.

BOYS

Do not give this medicine to children under 6 years of age, because the pharmaceutical form of the film-coated tablets does not allow the necessary dose adjustment.
