Description
ACTION AND MECHANISM
Antidiarrheal. Bacterial microorganism. It works by replacing the pathogenic flora of the intestine with one similar to the physiological one.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient or any of the excipients
- Hypersensitivity to yeasts, especially saccharomyces boulardii.
- Patients with central venous catheter
PREGNANCY
There are no data in pregnant women. Therefore, as a precaution, assess the benefit/risk ratio before taking this medicine during pregnancy.
INDICATIONS
-[DIARRHEA]. Symptomatic treatment of acute nonspecific diarrhea and in the prevention and symptomatic treatment of diarrheal processes caused by the administration of antibiotics.
INTERACTIONS
- Oral or systemic antifungal treatments, due to the fungal nature of the yeast Saccharomyces boulardii. Avoid concomitant administration.
- Very hot drinks or foods (over 50°C), ice cream, or those containing alcohol, since Saccharomyces boulardii contains live cells. Avoid administering Saccharomyces boulardii with these types of drinks or foods.
LACTATION
There are no data on the use of Saccharomyces boulardii in breastfeeding women. Although it is not absorbed, it is preferable to assess the benefit/risk ratio before using it during breastfeeding.
RULES FOR CORRECT ADMINISTRATION
Preferably administer before meals.
The capsules are swallowed whole with a glass of water.
POSOLOGY
* Symptomatic treatment of acute nonspecific diarrhea and diarrhea caused by the administration of antibiotics.
- Adults and children over 12 years, oral: maximum dose 500 mg/24 h; 1 250 mg capsule/12-24 hours or 1 50 mg capsule throughout the day (maximum 10 capsules).
- Children 6-12 years, oral: maximum dose 250 mg/24 h; 1 50 mg capsule throughout the day, up to a maximum of 5 capsules.
- Children up to 6 years, oral: maximum dose 150 mg/24 h; 1 50 mg capsule 1-3 times daily.
* Prevention of diarrheal processes caused by the administration of antibiotics
- Adults and adolescents over 12 years: maximum dose 250 mg/24 h; 1 capsule of 250 mg/24 h or 1 capsule of 50 mg throughout the day depending on the progression of symptoms (maximum 5 capsules).
- Children 6–12 years: maximum dose 100 mg/24 h; one 50 mg capsule/12–24 h.
- Children up to 6 years: maximum dose 50 mg/24 h.
PRECAUTIONS
- [MELANE]. If diarrhea persists for more than 2 days or blood appears in the stool or fever, the patient should be evaluated and the treatment and the need for oral or parenteral rehydration should be reconsidered.
- Capsules should not be opened in the vicinity of patients with central venous catheters, to avoid any colonization, especially those transmitted by hands to the catheter.
PRECAUTIONS RELATED TO EXCIPIENTS
- This medicine contains lactose. Patients with hereditary [LACTOSE INTOLERANCE] or galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine.
ADVERSE REACTIONS
Adverse reactions are described according to each frequency interval, considering very frequent (>10%), frequent (1-10%), unfrequent (0.1-1%), rare (0.01-0.1%), very rare (<0.01%) or of unknown frequency (cannot be estimated from the available data).
- Digestive: Rare: [FLATULENCE].
- Allergic/dermatological: Very rare: anaphylactic reaction with [PRURITUS], [URTICARIA], [EXANTHEMATOUS ERUPTIONS], [ANGIOEDEMA].
