Read the leaflet carefully and completely before you start using this medicine, because it contains important information for you.
Always use this medicine as directed in this leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
Indications:
SNUP is a medicine for the nose (decongestant) and contains the active substance alpha sympathomimetic xylometazoline. Xylometazoline has blood vessel constricting properties and therefore works as a decongestant on the lining of the nose.
Composition:
- the active substance is xylometazoline hydrochloride. 1 ml of nasal solution spray contains xylometazoline hydrochloride 0.5 mg. Each spray (about 0.09 ml of solution) contains xylometazoline hydrochloride 0.045 mg.
Administration method:
Doses:
SNUP 0.5 mg/ml nasal spray, solution:
Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, children 2 to 6 years of age should be given 1 puff of SNUP Nasal Spray in each nostril as needed up to three times a day.
SNUP is indicated for nasal administration.
Remove the plastic cap from the dropper. For the first administration, spray at least five puffs into the air until a consistent mist of spray solution is obtained. For all subsequent administrations, the nasal spray is ready to use on the first spray.
In any case, the procedure must be repeated if the spray has not been used for several days. The following recommendations will apply:
- if the spray has not been used for 4 to 14 days: 1 puff sprayed into the air
- if the spray has not been used for more than 14 days: 5 puffs sprayed in the air
Clean the outside of the applicator tip with a soft, clean tissue before replacing the cap, immediately after use.
For reasons of hygiene and to avoid infections, the nasal spray should only be used by one person.
Contraindications:
Do not use SNUP:
- if you are allergic to xylometazoline or any of the other components;
- if you have a certain form of chronic rhinitis (rhinitis sicca)
- after surgical removal of the pituitary gland through the nose (trans-sphenoidal hypophysectomy) or in case of other surgical interventions that expose the outer layer (dura mater) of the brain
- in infants and young children under 2 years of age
Precautions:
Before using SNUP, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility:
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
SNUP should not be used by pregnant and lactating women, except on the recommendation of the doctor and after he has carried out a careful assessment of the benefit / risk ratio, since safe use during pregnancy and lactation has not been established. Because overdose may affect the blood supply of the baby during pregnancy and may reduce milk production, the recommended dose should not be exceeded during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Driving vehicles and using machines:
The ability to drive vehicles and use machines is not affected when the drug is used as indicated.
